Dept. of Planning and Environment

Brand + Print

Motifs

This is my favourite project from my time at the Department of Planning and Environment, a project with an authentic story.

The Aboriginal Communities Lands and Infrastructure Program Team had commissioned an indigenous artist, Jordan Adler, to produce a painting representing NSW (below).

From the painting, they wanted to create a brand for their team but had been unsuccessful in sourcing an approach or designs they were happy with.

My approach was to pull out the strongest motifs from the painting and produce a cleaner style that could complement the existing brand style of the Department of Planning.

The final designs became a variant branding style for the entire Department and were used heavily throughout, in presentations, reports, on business cards and online.

Local Character and Place Guideline

After the state election of 2020, we could see that the branding for the Department would shift and that new design requests would pour in.

A new guideline booklet was being planned, and it needed a fresh look within 24 hours. My team had to produce multiple options as fast as possible. Though the deadline was far from ideal, we were praised for what we delivered.

The images below are from my contribution.
